2018-2019

Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2018-2019, the largest Final Fantasy XIV live event, kicked off November 16-17 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, USA for the North American Fan Festival (6,000 attendees), followed by the European Fan Festival (4,500 attendees) at the Grande Halle de La Villette in Paris, France on February 2-3, 2019, before wrapping up with the Japanese Fan Festival (15,000 attendees) on March 23-23, 2019 at Makuhari Messe Hall 4-6, Chiba, Japan. To commemorate the game’s 5th year of service in China, a special Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2019 Shanghai (6,000 attendees) was held at Shanghai New International Expo Center in Shanghai on August 10, 2019.

The two-day event in Japan opened from 9:30AM to 9PM, costing ¥12,500 for a two-day ticket. A special ticket costing ¥15,000 came with fan festival commemorative items: in-game item codes for SDS Fenrir mount and Aerith minion. A souvenir set was gifted to all ticket holders, which included including tote bags, PET bottle holders, ballpoint pens, and masks.

The Kugane area was the perfect hang-out zone and photo-op spot, and the Gold Saucer area featured real-life carnival style games as you would find in the digital world of Final Fantasy XIV.

 

From the main stage, attendees were the first in the world to hear details of the new expansion, and were treated to panels throughout the weekend that included key members of the development team. 

 

Attendees could explore the venue further to find exclusive merchandise, artwork and a gaming room set up with hundreds of playable stations where fans could engage in boss battles and other “you can’t do this at home” style challenges.

MAIN STAGE
  • Keynote Speech: Naoki Yoshida, producer and director, talked about future development of Final Fantasy XIV.

​

  • Naoki’s Room: Talk session over the two days with special guests including Keita Amemiya (boss designer), Yuma Uchida (voices Crystal Exarch, G'raha Tia), Yosuke Saito (Square Enix director and executive producer), Tsuguo Mogami (voice actor), Itaru Yamamoto (voices Runar), Aoi Yuki (voices Relm in DFFOO), Sanshiro Wada (suit actor), Nanjo Yoshino (voices Krile Mayer Baldesion, Suzaku, Lyna), Ichiro Ha (Square Enix producer), TERU (from the band Glay, performer of theme song “Colors” for Final Fantasy XIV Dad of Light)

 

  • Cosplay Contest: adventurers showed off their favourite outfits and received prizes.

  • Special Live Piano Performance: songs from Final Fantasy XIV performed by Keiko, featuring Susan Calloway. The set list is below:

  • 50th FFXIV Letter from the Producer LIVE: latest information on Final Fantasy XIV broadcasted in real time.

​

  • Development Panel: a look into the behind the scenes development work and secret stories from the development team. Guests include Yoshiki Takanashi (background artists), Masato Shida (background artist).

​

  • Alienware Presents FEAST Region Championship 2018 Japan Final: Finalists to head to head to be crowned the championship title for 2018.

​

  • Live Performance: The Primals closed the event in an explosive concert, performing metal covers of Final Fantasy XIV songs. The set list is below:

  • Substage: a 14 hour live broadcast of the event with MC Ayano on Day 1 and an Adrenaline Rush Live Exhibition Match on Day 2, with two teams led by Nishimura Baby and Moriguchi using Alienware hardware used during the FEAST championship. Participants were sorted by lottery after registration and winners received a special the FEAST T-shirt whilst losers received a special the FEAST sticker.

BATTLE CHALLENGES
  • Special Battle Yojimbo: unveiled for the first time at event. Attendees able to defeat Yojimbo received a special “I Beat Yojimbo” sticker.

​

  • The Four Lords Roulette: team up with other attendees and battle with one of the four lords (Genbu, Byakko, Suzaku and Seiryu) depending on the turn of the wheel. The winning party was gifted a sticker designed with the four beasts.

​

  • FFXIVxMonster Hunter Extreme Liolaeus Hunting Battle –Revenge-: Liolaeus returns from Tokyo Game Show 2018. Successful attendees received a special “I Beat Liolaeus” T-shirt.

​

  • Special Challenge Dungeon Speed Run: a special tonberry postcard was gifted to attendees who were able to clear the dungeon within a specified time.

  • Moogle Catcher (¥1,000 for 3 plays): popular Gold Saucer contents available, as well as new items specifically designed for fan festivals.

​

  • Job Icon Scoop (¥300 for 1 play): scoop special bouncy balls emblazoned with Final Fantasy XIV job icons and keep it as a souvenir. The scoop was actually made of very thin paper requires some skills to scoop up the ball without getting the paper too wet where it leads to tearing. 

​

  • Second Beanbag Mascot Catcher (¥100 for 1 play): the beanbag mascot catcher returned for its second iteration featuring Final Fantasy XIV mascots.

​

  • Head Equipment Shop (¥500 each): masks for various Final Fantasy XIV characters available for purchase

​

A pop up Square Enix store was available, selling various Final Fantasy XIV related merchandise. Capsule machines were also available for ¥300 yen, containing 30 different types of badges.

Collaboration Area: game booths featuring various titles for attendees to try.

  • Theatrhythm Final Fantasy All-Star Carnival: keychain gifted for participants.

  • Dissidia Final Fantasy: Y’shtola clear file gifted for participants.

  • Chocobo’s Mysterious Dungeon Everybuddy: chocobo keychain gifted for participants.

  • Final Fantasy Brave Exvius: sticker sheet featuring Final Fantasy XIV characters in dot illustration gifted for participants.

  • Crocodile, Crocodile, Crocodile!: crocodile hitting game.

  • Allagan Lot Squeezing Challenge: air hockey game.

  • Introduction to Hamon Fighters: AR experience.

  • Around Hyderin: collect coins in this retro game with Final Fantasy XIV specifications.

Table Game Lounge: a hang out space where attendees could learn and participate in games.

  • Gold Saucer Lottery Tender Party Experience Corner: experience Final Fantasy XIV’s first full scale board game.

  • Final Fantasy Trading Card Game: learn the rules and experience the TCG. A storage box was gifted to participants.

  • Draw Without Looking Corner: a fun event where participants were required to draw Final Fantasy XIV related doodles with their eyes closed.

FFXIV Real Mystery Solving Game Allagan Dice Quest

For ¥2,000, the quest come with a puzzle solving kit and Final Fantasy XIV designed original dice. Set across the venue, aim for goal whilst solving the mystery hidden at the venue.

Sponsor Booths

Various sponsor booths showcasing products and services were available. Sponsor booths included: Alienware, Cooler Master, Galleria, G-Gear, HyperX, IO DATA, Lenovo Legion, Sycom, ZOTAC, WebMoney, Final Fantasy XIV Wedding.

PHOTO OP SPOTS & EXHIBITION

Several photo op spots were installed across the venue, including:

  • Huge panel of Yojimbo near the Special Battle Yojimbo booth

  • WoL Minion photo spot. A hero blessed by the mothercrystal that appeared at Japan FanFest. Appears to have a habit of emoting in front of a strange recording device.
    Behavior: Independent.

  • Life size Senor Cactuar at Makhuri Gold Saucer (travelled from Eorzea Café in Osaka)

  • Giant moogle

  • Photo pose area with job specific life size weapons 

  • Market board

A fan art contest was also displayed at the event. Works judged by the development team were displayed and visitors voted for their favourite.

​

Stamps were collected by participating in various activities, playing games, purchasing food, etc, could be exchanged, with every 5 stamps converted to one lottery ticket, drawn at the main stage over the two days. Attendees could also exchange 3 stamps for Final Fantasy XIV original goods. A second stamp book was available for ¥200, if the first stamp book was filled.

EORZEA CAFE

In collaboration with Pasela, the Eorzea Café Menu makes an appearance at the event for hungry adventurers, with one of 35 coasters gifted per item ordered. For those who don't want Final Fantasy XIV related dishes, regular food and drinks were available at Eorzea Kitchen. Prices were displayed in gil, where 1 gil equated to 1 yen. The full menu is below:

Food:

  • Hot Stone Soup -Memories of Vesper Bay- (750 gil): hot soup with plenty of vegetables. It is irresistable for vegetable lovers!

  • Hien's Traditional Moru (750 gil): sausages from monsters hunted by Hien, enjoyed with spicy mustard sauce.

  • Oronir Curry (1,000 gil): yellow like the Oronir outfit, the tasty minced meat curry is garnished with tomatoes resembling the sun. It is topped with the black horns of Magnai Oronir.

  • Esugen's Sun (Azim Steppe) Rice with Steppe Dzo Beef Fan Festival 2019 Ver. (1,350 gil): beef atop garlic rice that sparkles in the sun. The garlic is also good for your health.

  • Osaka Noodles (950 gil): a noodle dish to commemorate Osaka Earozea Cafe's second anniversary.

  • Au Ra Dark Knights Blue Noodles (1,250 gil): Eorzea Care's specialty blue noodles returns with a reimagining. 

  • The Quicksand's Special Sandwich (750 gil): the Quicksand's specialty, with dodo meat.

  • Miqo'te Grilled Kushiyaki Skewers Spicy Ver. (500 gil): a traditional Miqo'te dish of grilled dodo meat and tomatoes.

  • Moogle Pancakes (800 gil): enjoy pancakes with two flavours: strawberry syrup and maple syrup.

  • Popcorn (800 gil): either salty or caramel flavouring, it comes with a special venue-specific packaging.

  • Eorzea Cafe Moogle Chocolate (2,150 gil): black and white moogle chocolate popular at the Akihabara and Osaka Cafes. Makes a great souvenir!

  • Alchemist's Crafting Recipe - Potion (600 gil): An effective health restoration potion. Recovers 32% of your health! [Blue Curacao + Lemon + Orange Juice + Soda]
